Chocolate Cake

Who knew chocolate cakes were easy to make? This recipe is super simple and it makes a perfect rich chocolate cake with the creamiest chocolate frosting. If you’re a chocolate lover you better get your ingredients ready!


For the cake:

  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1¾ cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup hot coffee

For the chocolate frosting:

  • 1 cup double cream
  • 450g chocolate.
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder



For the cake:

  1. In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda and cocoa powder.
  2. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract and combine.
  3. Add the hot coffee and mix.
  4. Separate the batter into two and pour each half into a greased pan that has been dusted with cocoa powder. Bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes at 180 degrees C. Leave to cool.

For the chocolate frosting:

  1. In a pan, heat the double cream and add the chocolate and cocoa powder. Stir until melted, then set side to cool and thicken up a little.
  2. Spread half of the frosting on the top of one of the cakes, then layer the other cake on top, sandwiching them together. Use the remaining frosting to ice the rest of the cake.
